john travolta and kelly preston
They had a terrible birth at Halifax Hospital
in Daytona Beach, FL (no surprise). Then they had a homebirth in
California (I think CA). He bragged about it on one of the talk shows.
Its important to point out that they didn't
have a homebirth for privacy because they are celebrities. Some actually
understand the philosophy and the home vs hospital/birth center models
of care. I suppose some celebrities do it to avoid the media.
Do you know if the ones on your list all used
midwives at home or did some use doctors? Cindy Schierlinger, Homebirth

I gave birth to a 10+lbs baby
boy in my home without a midwife, in Montreal, 1978.
My name is Darjee Sahala,
I am almost 26 years old and my mother had me
unassisted, by choice on our, then, living room floor in
Longmont, CO. My sister, brother, and father came in
for pushing and they say it was the most sacred day of
their lives. Since then, my sister has had two home
births, my niece Ixchell who is now 4, and my
nephew Maitreya who is 10. I am now studying to
be a midwife!! What an impact that day had on our
lives. Already, in my education if have had the
privilege of attending 40 home births and counting!!

My second and third
sons. I had two of my four, now grown, children at home. Also, I was a childbirth educator and a birth assistant to a home birth MD at hundreds of wonderful homebirths in the San Gabriel Valley (near Los Angeles) during the early 80's. I advocated for homebirth in the 80's at rallies attended by the now famous Ina Mae Gaskin, and the local press...my birth history follows: Hospital
unmedicated non-interventive birth: Jasen Thorpe
Free-standing birth center birth: Laura Thorpe
Born at home in Brea, California: Sara Thorpe
Born at home in Brea, California: Adam Thorpe
I have had a very interesting birth history...I had to "buck the system" for each and every beautiful, non-interventive, natural birthing. But by far, my home births were the most wonderful of the four for the rest of my family! My older children, were involved in the process and the celebration! And, as you can see from my signature below, I am still a natural birth advocate, and I only wish there were more options for home birth in my area...in the land of very conservative Orange County, California!
