announce the arrival of Hana Moriah Smith who was born at home with a
Certified Professional Midwife, in Lake in the Hills, on Saturday, August 14, 1999.
Hana is their first child and weighed 9 pounds 1 ounce and measured 22 inches in length.

BORN AT HOME* Page 5 The book Cheaper by the Dozen that chronicles the early life of the Gilbreth family states that the first 11 of the 12 Gilbreth children were born at home. Lillian Gilbreth went to the hospital for one of the children, but then walked alone the 6 miles or so home because she didn't like it. The last one was a hospital birth. She was uncomfortable having the baby on Nantucket Island in a primitive place with no access to help in the case of an emergency.

at home May 6, 1942 in Longview, TX with an OB in attendance.
Avery Michael Martin -- son of Dawn
Martin and Ronald Holley. Planned as a home birth, transported for
pitocin, and returned home to the loving care of our midwife 6 hours
after the birth. Born September 4, 1992 in Austin, TX at 10 lbs even.
Sloan Cadance Holley -- daughter of
Dawn Martin and Ronald Holley, delivered at home December 4, 1994 in
Austin, TX with her big brother observing and a midwife in
attendance. 8 lbs. 14 ozs.
Teague Dailey Holley -- daughter of
Dawn Martin and Ronald Holley, delivered at home June 14, 1999 (Flag
Day!) with both of her siblings present and our dedicated midwife in
attendance once again. 9 lbs.
Sarah Grace Stein - born January 14, 2000
Born in the bathtub at home in Calgary
surrounded by the love of her two sisters, two brothers, daddy, auntie
Leslie, auntie Vicky, great-nieces Jodi and Kari, cousin Skylar, doulas
Fabiana and Sonya, and midwives Joy and Penny.
My oldest child (who I was lucky enough to
adopt), Power Vhanah Jacques, was born at home in Cambodia
around December 2, 2000.
My 1st born, 2nd child, Grace Lynelle
Jacques, was born at home (I switched from a hospital birth at
37 weeks) on January 15, 2002 - 10 hours labor.
My youngest daughter, Taylor Rayne
Jacques was born at home (at 37 weeks) on April 4, 2003 - 6
hours labor.

Hanna Foster 2/6/99 8 lbs. 12 oz. My second child, Fiona Karen Nudd,
was born at home here in Austin Texas. An interesting tidbit: our hot
water heater is very old and so to have enough warm water for the
birthing tub, many of our neighbors boiled water and left it on our
front porch as I labored just inside the door in my bedroom. That is one
of my fondest memories of Fiona's birth! After my son Tristan Ian Lora's
hospital birth 10/20/82 weighing 9lbs. 4oz. (17 hours induced), I had: I was born at home (1965, in England) as was my brother (1962) to my wonderfully aware RN mum, midwife assisted. My first child was born in hospital (1997) Aghhh!!!! but we survived and learnt. My daughter was born at home 11 weeks ago (26.12.2003). Rhianna Jane Gloria was delivered, through water, by my partner and I, with the love and support of our wonderful (spiritual) midwife Jane and mutual friend and kinesiologist, Lyn. Birth as it is meant to be! A natural, loving process, not a disease to managed.

Devyn Caroline Gibson was born at home
6-17-02, she weighed 8 lbs 8 oz and was 21 inches long.
Nathan Churchill Gibson was born at home
in the water 1-18-04, he weighed 10 lbs 6 oz and was 22 inches long.

Our two sons were born at home in
Little Rock, Arkansas. Jacob Philip Brody-Ogborn (8lbs
14 oz) was born at 5.34pm on June 6, 1999.
Aden Paul Brody-Ogborn (8lbs 8 oz.)
was born at 3.34am on January 12, 2001. My water always broke first.
Jacob took 12 hours from the time my water broke. Aden took 4.5
hours from the time my water broke. At every birth I shouted "I can
do it!" and at every birth the midwives and my husband chanted back,
"Yes! You can do it!" What a way to greet your children. The warm
herbal bath after the birth with my babies each time was wonderful
too. My "baby" (now nearly 10 years old!) was born at home, weighing 9-1/2 pounds and measuring 22-1/2 inches. She was born in San Jose, CA. She was the first, but my next is due at the end of September.
